Gaming Ring volume #14 – Resident Evil

Posted by mrcollector w dniu Styczeń 22, 2007

Biohazard (inaczej RE)

To ta seria stowrzyła pojęcie survival horror czyli walka o przetrwanie w horrorze. To takie monstra które powstały w wyniku eksperymentów i mieszania w kodzie DNA or something like that. Oddział Bravo z formacji S.T.A.R.S zostaje wysłany do lasów w okolicy miasta aby wyjaśnić zagadkowe morderstwa. Rebecca Chambers odnajduje Eclipse Express, pociąg który w intrze miał nieprzyjemne zdarzenie…

Resident Evil 0

RE0

Many cases of bizarre murders have been springing up in the mountanous region around Raccoon City. The victims appear to have been eaten alive. S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team have been dispatched to investigate the occurances. Before their investiagtion could begin, a problem with the engine of their helicopter forces the team to land.

The team survived their crash, but were now crippled with the loss of their weapons and equipment. During exploring their surroundings, the team found a military jeep. The occupants were murdered brutally. Bravo Captain, Enrico Marini, ordered his men to find the only suspcant you everect of these deaths – former military man, and now criminal, Billy Coen. Instead, they found a nightmare that threatened to consume them all.

Resident Evil 1

PS. Intro z wersji Remake, jedynka z podrasowaną grafiką, głównie…

RE1

Raccoon City is the very picture of the perfect American City. Umbrella Incorperation’s involvement has kickstarted much economic growth in the city though. Recently, there has been a smear on the city’s reputation. Suspicious murders have been taking place in the forests and mountains surrounding the city. S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team had been previously sent in to investigate the menance. Contact was lost shortly after they headed in. The day after, S.T.A.R.S. Alpha Team was sent in to follow them and to find their team mates. They only found the crashed helicopter, a mauled corpse inside.

While investigating the area for signs of the rest of Bravo, they were ambushed by a pack of the monsters responsible for the deaths of civilians and Bravo pilot. Outnumbered, disoriented, Alpha team takes cover in an old abandoned mansion. They discovered something else entirely — the inhabitants of this mansion weren’t what they expected…

Akcja gry zaczyna się w momencie, gdy Bravo Team, część oddziałów S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics and Rescue Service), zostaje wysłany na obrzeże Raccoon City – małego miasteczka w USA.

Resident Evil 2

RE2

The remaining members of S.T.A.R.S. tried to get the word out about Umbrella Incorperation’s involvement with the mansion incident and the exact nature of the undead that were advancing upon the city.
Chief Brian Irons dismissed their claims as unbelievable drug induced hallucinations. The claims of the survivors were laughed off, even as the horrors unleashed by Umbrella began their slow, unstoppable march upon Raccoon City. Soon, chaos reigned. Even as the entire city was being destroyed by unspeakable horrors, rookie cop Leon S. Kennedy sped towards Raccoon, eager to start his duties as a police officer.

Instead of finding his comrades and a secure city, he stumbled upon a necropolis of the living dead, the only RPD officer left to serve and protect any humans who had escaped death. On the other end of the city, Claire Redfield searchs for her brother, Chris Redfield. Raccoon was where they had last met, and she is unprepared for the monsters that await her. Before long, she realizes that the sickness around Raccoon City could cost her her life, and she must escape…
While running from the undead, Claire and Leon meet up in the middle of the city. The two must figure out not only who and what is causing this epidemic, but how to survive.

Pewnego dnia do Raccoon City przybywa początkujący glina – Leon S. Kennedy. Razem wsiadają do policyjnego radiowozu i uciekają w kierunku Komisariatu Policji.

Pojawia się też po raz pierwszy Ada Wong (this bitch in red dress). Poznajemy też żonę i córkę Birkina oraz Brian’a Irons’a, szefa RPD. Do znanych wrogów dochodzi aligator, wielka ćma, Mr. X (tyrant zaprogramowany aby znaleźć wirusa G) oraz w roli boss’a zmutowany Birkin – G-TYPE, najgorszy koleś w całej grze i zarazem najlepszy B.O.W (w kwestii zabijania). To tyle ode mnie…

RE3

RE3

Jill Valentine has retired from S.T.A.R.S. in disgust after the treatment of the testimony that Chris Redfield and herself provided after the Spencer mansion incident.

While Barry Burton and Chris Redfield head off to Europe to prepare their retaliation against Umbrella, Jill chooses to stay behind to gather more proof. Before she has time to leave the city, the T-Virus has already infected and turned many civilians of the once prosperous city. She is trapped inside the city, even as the civilians die and rise again around her. The Raccoon Police Department is obliterated. Jill is on her own.

The U.B.C.S. (Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service) is sent into the necropolis to clean up the city as best as they can. However, they are outnumbered by the thousands, and Jill and the mercenaries are forced to forge an uneasy alliance. Just when things are at their worse, a B.O.W. unveils itself, a killing machine hellbent on destroying all S.T.A.R.S. members, and anyone who attempts to help them.

Jill is the only personell left in the city, leaving her the only target for the Nemesis, who will not fall back under any circumstances. This is her last escape.

Zacząłem naparzać go z karabinu (grałem na easy) i cuem unikałem rakiet. Jakoś go zabiłem.

A ta grafika… Historia i styl gry oczywiście nawiązują do sprawdzonych standardów z poprzednich części i jedynie kontrola została w niewielkim stopniu zmieniona, a mianowicie wzbogacono ją o możliwość natychmiastowego obrotu postaci o 180 stopni (ta możliwość występuje również w trzeciej części RE).

RE4

RE4

1998… We all, like Leon, will never forget it… It was the year the T-Virus leaked into a peaceful mountain community Raccoon City . Leon himself involved. On his first day in the force.

But now… 6 years have passed since that horrendous incident. Umbrella, nothing more than a memory of those involved. New organisations move in the dark, unbeknown the world. Life passes by. A Spanish community, once peaceful and closed off from the modern world, is now rocked with a new Biohazard, one that threatens to go as far as the White House. President Grahams daughter is apparently trapped somewhere nearby this small Spanish community. Now Leon S. Kennedy, trained via a secret organisation, is sent in to rescue her.

Resident Evil 4 to najmłodsze dziecko Shinji’ego Mikami’ego.

Ta gra to idealny przykład połączenia horroru z akcją i dynamizmem. Na nudę tutaj absolutnie nie można narzekać m.in. dzięki QTE (Quick Time Events) gdzie na padzie trzeba szybko wciskać odpowiednią kombinację aby Leon uszedł cało z opresji i uniknął śmierci. A o tą naprawdę łatwo.

REoutbreak

REoutbreak

The idea of an online Resident Evil game was already born back in 2000. It was planned that RE4 will be playable online. Later on though, Capcom decided to make a seperate online RE game called, Biohazard Outbreak.

The action takes place somewhen in the time of RE2 and RE3. Raccoon City inhabitants are sitting at J’s Bar when they hear windows crashing. Mutated humans were crawling through the windows, hunting for human flesh. You are in a group of people and from now on, this is your team and you have to get out of this mess as soon as possible.

Play as one of the eight survivors, each character having different strengths, speed and unique abilities dependant on their profession. Master the cooperative gameplay and combine efforts with other characters to succeed against overwhelming odds. Five different chapters, each huge in size, violently different from the other and filled with a new breed of murderous zombie. Huge, detailed 3D environments and a new control method allow for more freedom within the game Together they must find a way out before the government resorts to the only option left: firing a missile into the city to destroy all traces of the virus.

Scenario 1 – Outbreak

Late one night in September 1998, 8 civilians head to J’s Bar in uptown Raccoon City .
Enjoying a quiet night a strange man enters, his flesh hanging off his body. Will, the bartender approaches and is suddenly bitten. The Outbreak begins…

Outbreak documents the first escape for the characters of Resident Evil Outbreak, Capcom’s first attempt at bringing Resident Evil to the online world. Players must escape the bar under-siege and try to escape as quickly as they can, fighting round the back streets of Raccoon City … Little do they know this only a beginning of a new nightmare, and this nightmare – anything goes.

Scenario 2 – Below Freezing Point

(Note: It would appear this scenario actually occurs after ‘The Hive’.)

After escaping through the sewers beneath the hospital, the Raccoon survivors come across a frozen laboratory. Untold secrets lurk below the ice and half-frozen monstrosities populate the chilled halls of this recently abandoned lab.

Below Freezing Point is the first scenario to cross over to the previous games. Most Resident Evil veterans will instantly recognize the fact that the labs in this scenario are the very same labs seen in Resident Evil Zero, and more importantly Resident Evil 2. Even better, new areas have been added showing more of the lab than we have previously seen before. Players who survive will also fight something familiar, the creature known as the G-Imago, (last seen in Resident Evil 2, first ‘boss’ of the A Scenario).

Scenario 3 – Hive

After finding help from the police, the survivors are taken to the local Raccoon Hospital . Once there they realise the hospital is nothing more than a giant hive for leeches, that can consume a living person and control them!

Hive is set within the same hospital seen within Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Though we only saw very little of the hospital as we ran through with Carlos, we now see more or less the entire building – even so much as being able to go to the roof. Indeed, the only floors we don’t access are the ones that we can enter in Resident Evil 3, and this scenario ties in fantastically with the game.

Scenario 4 – Hellfire

After running through the streets escaping the hordes of zombies, the survivors face no other choice than to enter the ‘Apple Inn’, a local hotel for tourists and visitors alike. Inside they find an inferno, and strange creatures that have razor sharp tongues…

This scenario shows the very first time we see lickers within Resident Evil Outbreak, and the ‘boss’ of the scenario is a very early Licker known as the ‘Regis Licker’, which betrays similar characteristics in appearance to Crimson Heads seen within Resident Evil: Rebirth. The scenario is very much a traditional Resident Evil setting, very slow with long winding corridors and lots and lots of rooms, oh – and the hotel is currently on fire as you explore it.

Scenario 5 – Decisions, Decisions

October 1st – Morning. The survivors seek refuge within the Raccoon Police Department garage, and George Hamilton comes across a note addressed to him, telling him to come to Raccoon University and learn the truths of the disaster which befell the city. Unaware of the disaster which is about to conclude the story of Raccoon City , George leads the survivors, to the Raccoon Univesity – where the only known cure against the T-Virus exists…

This scenario is perhaps the most Resident Evil like of them all, at the beginning it’s very much like the old days, walking around quit corridors and large expansive halls. As the action builds up in the scenario, more and more secrets are revealed. This scenario also features a cameo appearance of Nicholai Ginovaef, last seen in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. There are many homage’s to particularly the first Resident Evil game here, keep your eyes peeled to find them.

To wszystkie scenariusze z pierwszej części.

Będziemy przemierzać kolejne korytarze, tunele, toalety a wszystko to w najlepszym CAPCOM – owskim stylu.

R.P.D we własnej osobie. I poznamy historię Marvina… Niesamowity powrót do przeszłości…

Oczywiście to dopiero początek kłopotów.

Pierwsza i najłatwiejsza „eliminacja”.

A no najtrudniejsza. A wszystko to za sprawą rozwścieczonych Hunterów, gotowych w każdej chwili uśmiercić mas jednym ciosem. Lwy?

Zobaczymy… Teraz uwaga.

Nie pakuję tutaj całego opisu bo by cholernie zamulało. I jeszcze kilka szczegółów na temat B.O.W’ów które wyprodukowała Umbrell’a…

bow

The T-virus or Tyrant virus is Umbrella’s main biological weapon, responsible for the creation of most of their BOWs. Research for it began in 1978 at the Arkley Labs. The Ebola virus had been recently discovered in Africa and was immediately spotted as a weapon with limitless potential due to its 90% death rate. Umbrella circumnavigated the Biological Weapons Prohibition Pact by pretending to be researching the virus for a cure. Research was halted due to the virus’s weaknesses. Ebola could only survive outside a human host for a few days, as it was extremely vulnerable to ultra-violet radiation. It killed its host too quickly limiting the chances of infecting others. Furthermore the virus could only be passed on by direct contact so again chances of infection were limited. But what if a heavily infected host could still move around? What if the host could actively infect people? The concept of the T-virus was born.
This time the Progenitor virus was used as a base. On December 4th 1978 Dr James Marcus, Captain Albert Wesker and Dr. William Birkin succeeded in creating a new virus by mixing the Progenitor virus with leech DNA.

The life cycle of a normal virus can be described through the T-bacteriophage, a virus that preys upon bacteria. The virus itself is a protein crystal with a DNA core. Once the crystal touches a bacteria’s cell membrane, it dissolves and allows the viral nucleic acid to enter the cell. The cell immediately absorbs the viral genome into its own DNA. The new genes take over the cell’s functions and the cell manufactures dozens of new viral crystals and DNA strings. These crystal shells combine with the new DNA copies to form new viruses; the viruses dissolve the host cell, infect neighbouring cells and begin the cycle all over again. All cell energy in the human body is created by mitochondria. The T-virus actively kills any living mitochondria and replaces the dead ones. The T-virus then combines with cells to produce energy; this energy is enough to power the motor neurones and basic lower brain functions. This bypasses the entire circulatory system and makes organs such as the heart and lungs redundant. Unfortunately the T-virus must consume the cell in order to produce this energy and to divide mitotically and spread round the body. The slow breakdown of cells leads to the necrotising effects seen on most BOWs. The virus also incorporates itself into the host’s RNA substantially altering it. It is in this way that creatures lower down the evolutionary ladder, such as insects, birds and reptiles only increase in size and have only minor mutations due to the relative simplicity of their genome structure.

All infected hosts suffer from increased aggressiveness. Should the host be alive at the time of infection, higher brain functions will be destroyed as the virus dissolves the frontal lobes, leaving the animalistic cerebrum to govern behaviour. The virus damages the hypothalamus and the resulting flood of neurotransmitters, enzymes, and hormones such as norepinephrine and dopamine, combined with the painful symptoms of the infection, induces an almost psychotic rage and hunger in the victims of the T-virus. If the host is dead at the time of infection then there will only be enough energy produced to power the lower brain, which is responsible for basic instincts such as eating and walking. The virus can also travel through the bloodstream if needs be, affecting oxygen-rich tissues, such as the brain and musculature of vertebrates. Most viruses are host-specific; they can only infect a specific kind of cell, such as bacterial cells, human brain cells, or sheep liver cells. There is no known virus capable of infecting all cells; such a virus would theoretically over propagate and infect the whole ecosystem if released in an airborne form. Umbrella appear to have created such a virus.

Very little is known about this virus. It was created by Dr. William Birkin for the use of Captain Albert Wesker when he faked his death in 1998. This virus increases the metabolism of a person, giving them incredible strength, speed and regenerative abilities, which is why it is believed to be a mild version of the G-virus. The test subject does not suffer from the cascade mutation effect though, meaning Birkin found a way of perfecting the replication of cells even when the body is under extreme duress. The virus also limits itself to muscle tissue and the lower organs, leaving the brain completely intact. This breakthrough means that the subject’s mind is retained and no ill effects have been noted. Unfortunately the only test-subject has violated the law with six counts of 1st degree murder, multiple counts of 2nd degree murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter, approximately 150,000 counts of corporate manslaughter, violation of international law under the Biological Weapons Prohibition Pact, conspiracy to commit genocide, bribery, blackmail and various firearms offences. It is unknown if the virus is responsible for subject’s psychotic behaviour or if the subject was naturally unstable.
The virus has been exquisitely designed in the way it affects ocular tissue. The only visible effect of the virus is the way in which it affects the subject’s eyes. The only way a person could move accurately with the extreme speeds generated by the virus is by viewing the world in hundreds of frames per second, most likely in the same range as birds. In order to interact with the world with the ‘normal’ speed of a human, means viewing the world in the tens of frames per second. This means the subject can alter his vision at will, suggesting maybe even some similar properties to the T-Veronica virus.

Captain Albert Wesker

Born in 1960 Albert Wesker became a trainee researcher at the Umbrella Training Facility in 1976. By 1978 he had become a head researcher for the nearby Arkley Labs. He helped pioneer research on the T and NE-T viruses. After several years Wesker left the Arkley Labs to pursue research on the T-virus on his own. He occasionally returned to the Arkley Labs to collaborate with his colleague Dr. William Birkin. In 1996 Wesker joined the local police force and set up STARS (Special Tactics and Rescue Service), an all-purpose highly trained urban police unit that was created in response to the growing threats of terrorism and crime in Raccoon City. In truth these threats were trumped up by Police Chief Brian Irons who was being bribed by Umbrella. Wesker ordered this in order to assemble a team of highly skilled and heavily armed soldiers with the intent of pitting them against BOWs. When the T-virus was leaked in the Arkley Labs in July 1998 Wesker lured the STARS members there in order to gather combat data on the BOWs. After eliminating all but four STARS members Wesker confronted them in the Arkley labs with the intention of releasing the T-002 and gathering the final combat data required.
In actual fact Wesker turned out to be a triple agent. Not only had he betrayed STARS, he was also betraying Umbrella. Wesker faked his death and absconded with the combat data with the intention of selling it to the highest bidder. He set off the Arkley Labs self-destruct to cover up all traces of his actions. Utterly ruthless, it would be six months before he would be sighted again.

Mutation 1 Before confronting the surviving STARS members Wesker injected himself with Birkin’s virus. After a lot of elaborate stage play Wesker ended up being impaled by the T-002. The virus had increased his regenerative skills significantly and was able to recover from this wound despite being clinically dead for a few minutes. Using his newfound speed Wesker escaped from the Arkley Labs before the self-destruct was set off. Both Umbrella and STARS were convinced he had died in the explosion.
Six months later Wesker was spotted leading the attack on the Umbrella owned Rockfort Island. He had used the combat data as leverage and joined HCF, a rival corporation of Umbrella. Wesker’s abilities were evident in the attack. He is now capable of moving at incredible speeds and his strength easily defeats any human. But it was noted that when facing Alexia Ashford, a T-Veronica BOW, he was forced to retreat. The only visual damage to him was caused by fire, a weapon also used by Alexia. This suggests an inherent weakness to high temperatures. With the destruction of all laboratories in Raccoon City and the death of Dr. Birkin, the only sample and data of this virus lies with Captain Wesker.

Zombie The mainstay of Umbrella’s BOWs. The zombie was the primary goal of the T-virus. It moves relatively slowly searching for living flesh to feast on. Their main weapon is their teeth. After a long period of time the necrotising effects of the virus break down the body until it begins to fall apart, decreasing the BOW’s potential risk. The proper procedure for disabling a zombie is to damage its muscles enough so that they can no longer function or to sever its spinal cord to prevent nerve impulses reaching the muscles, otherwise you risk it becoming a more powerful Crimson Head. This usually takes a few weeks to occur. The most dangerous aspect of this BOW is the rate of infection. It only takes a small transference of blood or saliva to infect another person.

Crimson Head

The second stage of the zombie. If a zombie is severely injured, but has not actually had its spinal cord severed then the cells will start to repair themselves. Under extreme pressure the body can make mistakes when replicating DNA strands. This leads to mutations much like radiation sickness. But as the T-virus is now incorporated into the RNA of the host, the mutations are more controlled and much more aggressive. After a long period of time subjects have regenerated enough tissue to be able to move again. They also begin to develop claws and the skin becomes a distinctly crimson hue. Muscle mass is greatly increased and some higher brain functions are restored. This gives these BOWs enough coordination to be able to run. Their claws are far more effective than the rudimentary zombie’s teeth. Decapitation is necessary to permanently disable it.

Proto-Licker

In extreme circumstances a Crimson Head can mutate into a Licker naturally, usually caused by exposure to high concentrations of the T-virus over long periods of time. This is extremely rare, as very few Crimson Heads survive long enough to incubate the virus for the amount of time required. Only once has this event ever occurred, during the Raccoon City incident. The subject’s skin turns bright crimson and the trademark tongue begins to develop. The claws also develop further. It is more resistant to small arms fire than the artificially created Lickers but it is still no stronger than most Hunters.

Licker

This BOW can be created artificially by directly injecting a zombie with the T-virus. This can also occur naturally when a Proto-Licker is continuously exposed to the T-virus. This BOW is almost reptilian in appearance. It features an overdeveloped tongue that is capable of piercing a man’s torso. Its claws are extremely sharp and can slice a man’s throat open with surprising ease. Powerful guns or explosives are recommended when killing one. They have been sighted in Raccoon City and Sheena Island. Unfortunately this BOW has some inherent weaknesses. It navigates using its extremely sensitive hearing due to the fact that it is blind. Whilst this serves the creature quite well, targets can avoid it simply by standing still and waiting for the creature to move out of earshot. It also has an exposed cerebellum making it relatively easy to kill. But this BOW is extremely agile and, unlike the Hunter, can climb walls giving it an advantage over most targets. Despite handling itself quite well in the Raccoon City incident, and wiping out most of the local police department, research on this BOW was abandoned in favour of the Hunter.

Hunter

The Hunter is one of Umbrella’s most successful BOWs. It is easily identifiable due to its reptilian appearance. It is created when the T-virus is directly introduced into human DNA through gene therapy. Reptilian DNA is also added. Consequently, the Hunter is far more expensive and takes longer to create than some of the simpler BOWs. All hunters possess incredible speed and agility. Their strength is matched only by their ferocity. Hunters use their claws and teeth when attacking.

MA 121 Alpha

In conjunction with the research being done by Dr. James Marcus. After the Training Facility This was the first type of Hunter created. Research on this BOW started at the Umbrella Training Facility was shut down research was moved to the nearby Arkley Labs. Its standard attack patterns include claw swipes. If it is allowed a run-up the hunter will jump and use the downward momentum to inflict tremendous damage on the upper body. This usually results in a severed main artery, or in extreme cases, decapitation. Low calibre weapons have little effect on it. Explosives or guns with high muzzle-velocities are the optimum weapons to use when killing one of these creatures. Research is still being carried out on this BOW

MA 121 Beta

This variant was created in labs at Raccoon City. It is similar in every way to the MA-121 apart from the visible muscle tissue on its shoulders. Unfortunately this results in it being much easier to kill if you target the upper body. This is compensated by its increased agility as combat data has shown this BOW to be much harder to target in close-quarter battles. Due to its poor performance in the Raccoon City incident, research on this BOW was abandoned.

MA 124 Gamma

This variant was created in labs underneath the Raccoon City hospital. It is far more amphibious in appearance and also possesses increased agility. This Hunter also uses claw swipes, but instead of the standard decapitation move that is synonymous with all other Hunters, it prefers to swallow its victims whole. It has slightly stronger resistance to small arms fire than the MA-121 Beta, but it still performed poorly and no further research has been carried out.

Sweeper

A rarer and much more deadly variant, this Hunter is purple in appearance. It is exactly the same as the MA-121 Alpha except it is more resistant to small arms fire and has the ability to poison victims with its claws. This extremely rare BOW has only been sighted during the Rockfort Island attack. A single Sweeper was spotted during the Mansion Incident, it was believed to be a prototype. This sighting supports the theory that Captain Albert Wesker is responsible for most research on Hunters. The Sweepers used in the Rockfort Island attack belonged to HCF and Wesker is believed to have used his research on Hunters as leverage when agreeing to work for HCF. Any Umbrella research relating to Sweepers was destroyed in the Mansion Incident, meaning Wesker is the sole owner of all Sweeper combat data. Thanks to Wesker’s continued research HCF is now in possession of the most advanced forms of Hunters.

Hunter Seeker

This BOW represents the pinnacle of all research on Hunters. It possesses all the strengths of the MA-121 Alpha and the agility of the MA-121 Beta. This is one of the only BOWs that can differentiate between friendly and enemy forces. The Hunter-Seeker works in conjunction with small mobile motion sensors. Small and inconspicuous, when one of these sensors is tripped the target is illuminated with a beam and radio signals activate an implant inside the Hunter sending it into a rage. The Hunter’s enlarged eyes suggest more genetic alterations and/or implantations have been carried out. It is thought that the Hunter’s eyes have been altered to see into the ultraviolet spectrum. The motion sensor then projects a UV light beam onto the victim making it an obvious target. Two theories have been postulated on how the Hunter’s behaviour is controlled. Both believe that the Hunter have an altered cerebrum resulting in its ability to refrain from killing every living thing in sight. The first theory suggests that an implant is triggered by the motion sensor, causing a release of an adrenal based substance directly into the creature’s bloodstream, resulting in sending the Hunter into a frenzy. This is unlikely though as it would require a major operation on the creature every time the implant needed to be refilled or replaced. The second theory suggests that the motion sensor activates an implant within the Hunter’s brain. This implant directly stimulates the cerebrum, inducing a state of rage into the Hunter. Despite the fact that it would require extremely difficult surgery to place the implant into the creature’s brain, it would result in a much more reliable BOW.

Cleaner

These are genetically enhanced soldiers used by Umbrella when containing fallout from any viral outbreaks. They are resistant to the T-virus and are ideal when missions are required to take place in contaminated areas. Their enlarged upper bodies give them increased strength and agility, although this has had the effect of reducing their intelligence. Armed with MP5K sub-machine guns, they obey orders without question. A platoon of these BOWs were used when containing the outbreak on Sheena Island. It is interesting to note that like Chimeras, their bodies break down as soon as death occurs leaving no trace.

Cleaner Leader

This BOW is similar to regular Cleaners except he sports night-vision goggles giving him a clear view of the battlefield. It is his job to direct the Cleaners in battle. Although much more rare this BOW is far more intelligent, retaining much of its original mind.

T-103

The mass-production model of the Tyrant. The high incompatibility ratio was solved by injecting subjects with beta hetero-nonserotonin. This substance is an adrenal based neurotransmitter extracted from the locus ceruleus. A vast supply was found in the form of transients, homeless people and various others from third world countries that no one would miss if abducted. They must be kept unanaesthetised in order to ensure maximum amounts of the substance are extracted. Production was carried out on Sheena Island, until it blew up.
T-103s can be programmed to track “scents”. This allows a limited identification between friend and foe. In the Raccoon City outbreak one was dispatched to retrieve the last remaining G-virus sample, five others were used to stop a US Special Forces incursion in the north of the city. This model does not feature claws or the exposed heart seen in the previous models. It is completely non-sentient, meaning it has no concept of its mission. This can cause it to perform ill-advised actions in some cases

Mutation 1

If a T-103 suffers an extreme amount of damage it will go through an aggressive mutation that makes it revert slightly to that similar of previous models. Claws are formed on both arms and the heart starts to increase in size causing it to protrude slightly from the chest. Its scent system no longer functions and so it attacks all personnel in the area like previous Tyrants. It is much faster but this model still has a weakness to explosives.

Hypnos Tyrant

This Tyrant was an experiment carried out on Sheen Island to see if Umbrella could improve on its T-103 model. This Tyrant continues to mutate, similar to that of a G-type. Its first from is relatively weak, able to be stopped by most firearms. Its enlarged claw is still deadly though.

Mutation 1

Its muscle mass and claw size has greatly increased and it is now more resistant to firearms.

Mutation 2

The mutations cause the Tyrant to regress to an almost primate like creature. It loses much of its remaining intelligence and its muscle size increases enormously. It can now move extremely fast, leaping over its opponents. This BOW was killed in Sheen Island’s self-destruct.

Thantos

This Tyrant was created by a renegade Umbrella researcher during the Raccoon City incident. This Tyrant is far more agile than the others and extremely resistant to small arms fire.

Mutation 1

An aggressive mutation created the Thanatos-R. Like the Hypnos Tyrant’s mutations it has increased in strength and speed. It can stretch its arm in order to attack its opponents. The specimen was destroyed when Raccoon City was bombed and its inability to be mass-produced makes it unsuitable for a weapon, but data on it was used to help create the Bandersnatch BOWs.

G-Virus

The G-virus was discovered by Dr William Birkin in the Arkley labs on July 1st 1988. The Arkley labs had obtained a sample of the rare NE-Alpha and were testing it on a specimen, Lisa Trevor, when the parasite was mysteriously absorbed into her body. The parasite incubated in Lisa’ boy for a total of twenty one years before “evolving” into the G-virus. Birkin worked on it for a further ten years in the Raccoon City labs until he managed to successfully synthesise the first sample. The G-virus gives increased strength, speed and regenerative rates. The only way to do this is to increase the subject’s metabolic rate, which increases the rate at which cells divide. Unfortunately the body is not able to keep up and mistakes are made in the new cells’ DNA, similar to the effects of radiation sickness. Due to the incorporation of the virus’s RNA sequence this causes a cascade mutation effect, where violent mutations occur until the subject’s body breaks down. An infected subject will also search for hosts with similar genes to implant with G-Embryos. Infection causes subjects to become as strong as any Tyrant.

Dr. William Birkin

Birkin joined Umbrella when he was just sixteen. He carried out research on many of Umbrella’s viruses before starting research on the G-virus. During this time he married and even had a child. In 1998 Birkin finished research on the G-virus and was hoping to use the success to get a position on the executive board of Umbrella. He also became increasingly obsessed and paranoid about nobody gaining control over the G-virus research. Spencer wanted to prevent Birkin from gaining any influence in Umbrella and decided he had outlived his usefulness now that the G-virus was complete. Ironically, Birkin was assassinated for the exact same reasons and in the exact same manner as his predecessor, Dr James Marcus.

Mutation 1

After being shot Birkin injected himself with the G-virus. The effects were instantaneous and caused his whole body to mutate, including a Tyrant-like claw on his left arm. He promptly slaughtered the USFU team sent to kill him, leaking the T-virus in Raccoon City’s sewers in the process.

Mutation 2

After suffering substantial injuries a large aggressive mutation was induced. A new cranium was formed encased in dense bone matter. Muscle mass and claw size also increased. Two new forearms protruded from his stomach

Mutation 3

The forearms have fully developed and Birkin’s entire body is encased in armour similar to that of advanced Lickers. The new cranium is also more fully developed. His long reach makes him a formidable opponent.

Mutation 4

The cascade mutation effect causes Birkin’s body to fall lower down the evolutionary ladder, reverting to a sextupedal form. The powerful arms now serve as leg making Birkin capable of leaping twenty foot into the air. The claws have suffered a huge growth spurt forming a dense cluster round the mouth; perfect for impaling its enemy. There is no longer any humanoid resemblance left.

Mutation 5

After suffering multiple wounds and going though several rapid aggressive mutations Birkin’s DNA begins to break down under the stress and his body becomes a huge amorphous blob. Its sheer mass is its greatest weapon making it very difficult for any firearms to have any effect on it. Birkin was killed in when one of Umbrella’s trains self-destructed. Teams from HCF recovered the body.

Alexia Ashford

Alexia Ashford was genetically created in 1971, along with her brother Alfred, in the Umbrella Antarctic labs by Alexander Ashford in an effort to stop Spencer from gaining full control of Umbrella. Alexia was created from DNA of the Ashford ancestor Veronica. Further genetic enhancements gave her an extremely high IQ, as well as making her a sociopath. When she was ten she was made a researcher and created the T-Veronica virus. When she was eleven she injected Alexander with the T-veronica virus and had him chained up in a room within the Antarctic base. The following year she injected herself with the T-Veronica virus and had herself placed in cryostasis for 15 years.

Mutation 1

The T-Veronica virus had now been fully incorporated into her body giving her the ability to mutate at will. She generated an insect-like exoskeleton around herself. Her blood has mutated into a substance that combusts on contact with air, which will injure anyone in the vicinity if they inflict damage on her body. This means that she has overcome the weakness of pyrosensitivity that all other BOWs suffer from. She can also control the T-virus infected ant hive using pheromones.

Mutation 2

After being attacked Alexia absorbed a tentacle into herself and mutated into something reminiscent of a queen ant. Her huge mass makes it difficult to inflict damage. She also produces small insect-like creatures that will attack enemies in the area and protect her.

Mutation 3

After being injured Alexia lost control over the hive. The main body was destroyed by the ants, but her upper body detached itself and mutated into a dragonfly-like creature. Very fast moving and spewing flaming ichor she was killed by a STARS member with a prototype anti-BOW weapon. Her remains were incinerated in the Antarctica base self-destruct.

Dr. James Marcus

Dr. James Marcus was one of the original co-founders of Umbrella. Born in 1921, he was responsible for the very first research into a mutagenic virus. He and Dr Edward Ashford discovered the Progenitor virus on December 4th 1967. Four months later Umbrella was founded and Spencer asked Marcus to be director of the Umbrella Training Facility. Marcus declined but later changed his mind when he realised Spencer was increasing his influence within Umbrella. Marcus ignored most of his duties as director and took advantage of the facilities to continue his research. It took him ten years and help from the UTF’s two top trainee researchers, but on September 19th 1978 Marcus successfully combined the Progenitor virus’s RNA sequence with leech DNA to make the very first from of the Tyrant Virus.
Marcus continued his research on leeches but the UTF was shut down and Marcus disappeared from view to later start research on the Tyrant Program. Unbeknownst to him, the two trainee researchers who had helped him with the research, Albert Wesker and William Birkin, were conspiring with Spencer. With the Tyrant Program approaching the prototype stage Spencer wished to remove Marcus in order to further tighten his grip on Umbrella. Wesker and Birkin were promised promotions and control of Marcus’s research in exchange for their cooperation. In 1988 Wesker and Birkin called in a USFU team and had Marcus assassinated. His body was dumped in the treatment plant beneath the UTF.

Mutation 1

Marcus’s Progenitor virus infected leeches were also dumped in the treatment plant. The Progenitor virus normally causes a very violent cellular reaction, but if the virus is slowly metabolised over a long period of time it allows the human host to maintain control, similar to the T-veronica virus. Truth be told you do not get a slower metabolism than that of a dead person’s. The queen leech crawled down Marcus’s oesophagus and attached itself in an almost symbiotic fashion. There it incubated for ten years whilst Marcus’s cells were sustained and eventually metamorphosised and on July 23rd 1998 Marcus awakened. His body had reverted to the physical age of his early twenties. The other Progenitor infected leeches that had spent the last ten years hibernating and reproducing were controlled by him using a sonarific technique. Marcus immediately formulated a plan to exact revenge on Umbrella. He used his leeches to cause a T-virus spill at the Arkley labs and the Umbrella Training Facility, where a team of Umbrella engineers were investigating the prospect of reopening it. A second team of researchers being transported there by train were also attacked.

Mutation 2

The leech queen finally completed its incubation process and disposed of its host. It mutated what was left of Marcus’s DNA and changed into its adult form. It attacks suing its tentacles and an acid spit. This BOW demonstrates just how many features and traits seen in future BOWs originally came from the Progenitor virus. Similarities in T-virus BOWs and even the NE-T virus can be seen.

Mutation 3

The leech queen continued growing, aggravated by an aggressive mutation caused in response to damage done to it by personnel in the area. It uses its acid spit to wound targets before crushing them with its massive girth. Unfortunately this BOW is extremely photosensitive and therefore not practical as a weapon. It was destroyed in UTF’s self-destruct.

Nemesis

Nemesis is one of the deadliest BOWs ever created. Part of the Tyrant Project, the NE-T virus was used in its conception at the main Umbrella Facility in Paris. The first Nemesis was created when the NE-Alpha was inserted into the spine of a T-103. This was the Nemesis T-type. The parasite stimulates the T-virus cells and catalyses the formation of new brain cells. This allows the parasite to gain control of the host’s brain. In effect a second brain is formed, with all lower brain operations including control of the major organs and motor functions. Over time the NE-Alpha parasite will take over all bodily functions. Four compatible subjects were found, but during the mutation process one of the Nemeses maintained the ability of independent thought. Whether it was the parasite that was responsible or the host was never found out as the subject tried to escape and was destroyed immediately. The remaining Nemeses were given inhibitors that would limit the NE-Alpha’s growth when it reached maturity. This new modified Nemesis was classified the Nemesis T-02.
Due to the fact that only 1 in 60,000,000 people have DNA that is compatible with the virus, Nemesis is an extremely rare BOW. It was a minor miracle that a compatible test subject was found at all. For all intents and purposes Nemesis is completely indestructible. Most conventional weapons have no effect on it and explosives only succeed in rendering it unconscious. It uses the same ‘scent’ program as the T-103s, enabling it to hunt down targets over large distances. Unlike other Tyrants, Nemesis is sentient. As it actually has a concept of what its mission is, it is able to improvise in situations. It is also able to use weaponry. In the Raccoon City incident Nemesis was issued with a modified C90-CR rocket launcher, which was used to great effect. Standing over nine feet tall, Nemesis wears the standard trench coat issued to Tyrants, which hides a mass of tentacles capable of infecting victims with the NE-T virus. The NE-T virus affects the central nervous system of the victim and can cause mild paralysis. If the victim should die, the NE-T virus contains enough T-virus cells to reanimate the victim, which increases the chances of the T-virus being spread. Unlike the T-103s, Nemesis is extremely agile, capable of jumping several storeys and outrunning any human. Its strength exceeds that of a T-103. Nemesis was killed during the Raccoon City incident by STARS member Jill Valentine. The circumstances that resulted in Nemesis’s death were extreme, and highly unlikely to be repeated. Regardless the loss of Nemesis was a huge blow to Umbrella and there is little chance of finding another compatible host.

Mutation 1

Nemesis was designed to secrete a substance that would increase its cell metabolism in order to counter any heavy attacks and recover from wounds. The downside would be more increasingly unstable mutations. After falling unconscious in a fire, Nemesis’s trench coat was burned off and its rocket launcher destroyed. The extreme pressure put on the body caused a spontaneous mutation effect seen with G-Types and Crimson Heads. Nemesis’s tentacles extended in length and the loss of the trench coat allowed greater mobility. Its attack patterns include wrapping its tentacles around its victim and throwing them against walls.

Nemesis

After being decapitated, losing an arm and finally being boiled in large vat of acid in the Umbrella Waste Disposal Facility, which was designed to break down industrial waste, the remnants of Nemesis crawled to the nearby body of a T-103 and ingested some of the remains. The apparent infusion caused an extremely violent mutation. Its reaction was similar to that of a G-Type with new appendages being spontaneously generated. It also suffers from the same ‘devolution’ effect with each mutation; Nemesis reverted to a quadruped form and would have no doubt broken down into an amorphous blob had the mutations continued. An interesting chemical reaction also took place. Its unstable metabolic rate will cause a conflict between the T-virus and Nemesis-T virus cells. Nemesis can use this to its advantage by projecting a highly acidic compound of T and NE-T virus cells, capable of infecting anyone who comes into contact with this substance. Its acid and tentacle attacks are less effective than its previous attack patterns, but still lethal nonetheless. It is interesting to note that Nemesis continued to pursue its mission goal of eliminating all STARS members even when near death, and when mutations should have substantially altered its brain.
